2021 Hyundai Elantra: North American Car of the Year™ | Harlingen, TX
Though the North American International Auto Show, traditionally held in Detroit every January, was cancelled due to the pandemic, the North American Car, Utility, and Truck of the Year automotive media jury still deliberated on their prestigious and coveted awards for 2021. Ultimately, they named the 2021 Hyundai Elantra the 2021 North American Car of the Year™.
This marks the second time that the Hyundai Elantra sedan earned the Car of the Year award, which is quite a feat, as only two other cars have earned the award more than once. That puts the Elantra in good company with the Honda Civic and Chevrolet Corvette. Overall, this is the third time Hyundai has won in this category in the award’s 28 years.
In determining the winners for 2021, the media jurors reviewed more than 40 new cars, trucks, and SUVs before publishing a list of three finalists in each category. The 2021 Elantra was up against stiff competition in the finals: the Nissan Sentra and the Genesis G80. The Genesis G80 competition was especially noteworthy, as Genesis is the luxury arm of Hyundai.
